The book certainly does not explain away or excuse any of the horrors and atrocities that the SS were guilty of (nor does it attempt to), but it does provide a very detailed look at Himmler the child, Himmler the adolescent, Himmler the adult and the various things that happened to him and his family throughout his early years that shaped him /5(88).

A superb book covering by necessity not just the Himmler brothers but the broader family.
